Project Gutenberg, the repository for public domain books, has yesterday reached a new milestone of 50 000 books!
The latest addition is a bit self-referential: John Gutenberg, by Franz von Dingelstedt [gutenberg.org] is a translation of a biography of Johannes Gutenberg (c. 1398--1468), the inventor of the printing press.
It is very impressive to see the results of the 15 years of work by the PGDP [pgdp.net] project and its several international sister sites. Every single page of these 50 000 books has been scanned, OCRed, and reviewed by at least 5 people.
