What format are these videos being delivered in? Are they actually stored on the Steam servers and "streamed" to my device(s), or do I get to download an MP4 file?

(No, I didn't RTFA. I'll go do that now, to find out if it answered my question.)

What format are these videos being delivered in?

Delivered? They're asking people to pay actual money to stream "Crap movie 4: so bad its not even ironic"... "I torrented it for free - but I still feel cheated". No point delivering anything, it's not like the real owner of the credit card will care.

If you're that drunk there will always be some entertainment of comparable calibre on one of the free channels... Actually, I think I've even seen a few minutes of Leprechaun 4 on some channel (I must have left the remote on the other side of the room) but I sure as hell didn't pay for it.

Yet another movie streaming service that's charging way too much. I can buy these movies for from a few pennies to a couple dollars. I get rent from Redbox for a buck and a half. Why do streaming services insist on charging such a ridiculous amount for these movies. Netflix has it right: $10 a month for all you can watch. Otherwise, charge me 99 cents to stream older movies and $1.50 for the newer ones.

For "all you can watch" on Netflix, I've found for the past year or so that there is quite literally nothing to watch on Netflix. Netflix has lost the rights to many movies and television shows over the past couple of years, and tries to make up for it with its own original programming. However, I haven't found one of its original programs worth watching, nonetheless subscribing for.

You're right about Netflix, with their content count dropping eventually I'll run out of shows too. But the model is (was) the correct one. One service where I can get all the content. Don't make me subscribe to multiple services because I won't. Don't care who owns the content, divvying up the money is an issue for "them" to figure out.

For all the hatred I have to the recording industry, it seems they've finally got that figured out and are heading towards all content on all services and letting service specialties and features pull us users. Guess we just have to wait another ten years for the MPAA et al. to reach the same conclusion.

Don't make me subscribe to multiple services because I won't.

By the time they make it so difficult to purchase it, most of us will learn how to bypass their little frustrations.

Consider trying to sell fountain drinks, but there's a helluva lotta dog-poop in front of the cash register. People will be sneaking in empty cups to bypass having to stand in front of the register - not to "save" a buck, but to avoid wasting several minutes from having to clean their shoes.

Making something difficult to purchase only drives people to seek alternatives.

Would you mind sharing a truly official link about the cancellation please? I've still found almost nothing. According to wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-Life_%28series%29 [wikipedia.org]. This article [denofgeek.com] seems to have the most information about what's been said by Valve over the years.

There's a Mirror article around the start of this year claiming what you said but elsewhere that's dismissed as rumor and a lot of people would take anything written there with a pinch of salt.

HL3 is not going to make them any money anymore. They have settled on CS:GO as their perpetual money making machine, got everyone on PC hooked on Steam, and now focusing on SteamOS and VR. They are not a content delivery company.

Several of the videos in their catalog are on NetFlix. Heck Ender's Game was just on SyFy (yeah I hate the spelling too). I sure hope those prices are to Buy the video not rent the video. If it's for rent they are smoking too much weed. In any case it's streaming only. I don't see any mention of any other delivery method but streaming. So, nope no thanks.

I just followed the "in the catalogue" link above and clicked around, and found that at least in Germany you can at least "buy" Leprechaun 3, for € 5.99, but it's still online streaming only (I interpret that as that you pay for the ability to stream as often as you want).
