https://www.itwire.com/open-source/jonathan-carter-wins-race-to-lead-debian-for-next-year.html

South African developer Jonathan Carter will be the leader of the Debian GNU/Linux project for the next year, after he defeated the two other contenders in the race, according to the results which were declared on Sunday.

Carter was up against Sruthi Chandran, who was bidding to become the first female leader of the project, and Brian Gupta, a member of the project for the last seven years.

Carter had cited the need for better publicity, getting more feedback to ease up issues that contributors faced and better visibility and transparency about funds received and how they were spent in his election platform.

[...] Debian is one of the few free software projects that holds elections. It has done so since it was set up in 1993 by the late Ian Murdock.

Unfortunately, the most likely outcome is that Poettering sees them circling him and says. OH THIS STRATEGY IS SO PREDICTABLE AND NAIVE, HERE LET ME CODE FOR YOU A BETTER ONE. They will fall for it (some will insist on that, as they are paid by Soros), and while they start eating dirt and rocks because of WONTFIX issues permeating the new strategy, Poettering will leave for new projects.

It's not just Sanders: The fairly well-documented efforts to undermine Elizabeth Warren happened for more-or-less the same reasons, namely she had a chance of winning and considered taxing rich people to be an acceptable way of funding government programs. And the "Washington consensus" is that taxing poor people and middle class people is just fine, but taxing rich people is off limits, because totally coincidentally nearly all candidates from nearly all parties get their campaign cash from rich people.

This is just the humble opinion of this moderate unaffiliated voter, but I am not too unhappy that we aren't going to have to face the choice of the cult of personality from the left vs. the cult of personality from the right.

Believe it or not, but some of us moderates ACTUALLY WANT A MODERATE this time around, especially one who can be the grownup in the room and not yell down opposing views. We don't want to gamble that your guy can beat the idiot in charge, and we sure as hell don't need a "revolution."

How the hell were you looking at the primary results? Once all the moderate candidates but one dropped out, a tidal wave of votes went to Biden. This isn't some stupid "power elite" move that kept your boy or Warren out, this is the bulk of the party saying we don't want Trump 2.0, because that is what you'd get if it was Trump v. Sanders.

Remember Debian, the Universal Operating System, with many architectures and different kernels, supporting other spin-off distributions and daring to disagree with upstream? Debian bent over (default desktop dependencies, world-and-dog-shim-that-started-as-init, even browser independence by not being bound by trademarks)... yet the benders do not care and just want to replace them completly. And Debian will happily bend more, instead of focusing in the problems.
